    Education economists analyze education variables and the impact they have on individuals and the societies and economies in which they live. A great deal of emphasis has been placed on determining outcomes to educational investment. Typically, education research with an economics of education perspective focuses on data, quantitative methods, and economic theories to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and quality of education. The research questions and hypotheses are aimed at determining what education inputs do or do not have an effect on desired education outcomes, thereby providing a base of knowledge from which to build informed, effective education policies. In this Discussion, identify, examine, and defend education research that incorporates economic principles and econometrics to guide a specific education policy affecting education context.

    To prepare for this Discussion, think about education policy issues that have been in the news in the state recently for the level of education in which a leader or intend to be a leader. Identify one of the policy issues that has been particularly controversial, and research the primary arguments being represented in the controversy. Review the purposes and approaches of economics of education presented in the resources for this module. Locate two scholarly readings that analyze one or more facets of the policy issue from an economics of education perspective. Reference all of these scholarly sources to respond to the Discussion prompt.
