    Diversity discussion part I.  This is just discussion questions with the class, a few sentences to answer each question.

    1.Describe at least two different health care settings in which you have worked. What were the similarities and differences as far as the services provided, patient population, and health information gathered? ◦If you have not worked in two different settings, select two of the facilities described in your text and compare and contrast the health services provided there. Be as specific (e.g., rural free clinic versus big city hospital) as possible.

    2.How can the setting affect the gathering and accuracy of the health record?

    3.What are some challenges for health care workers serving diverse populations? What challenges have you faced? How do these challenges relate to the provision of health care? To the creation and maintenance of accurate records?

    4.What can you, as a supervisor or department director, do to increase your staff’s level of sensitivity to other cultural behaviors and languages?

    Religion and medication discussion Part II.

    How are religious differences addressed and/or accommodated at health care facilities in the U.S.? Post a link to an article that supports your answer.

    1. Do you have a personal experience in which your religious or spiritual beliefs played a role in your (or someone else’s) health?
    2. Do you think religion helps or hampers medical treatment? Explain why and provide support for your position.
    3. If you had a patient who wanted you to pray with him, what would you do?

    Identity discussion part III.

    1. In your own words, define the terms race and ethnicity. How are race and ethnicity different?
    2. With respect to these definitions, what are your race and your ethnicity? Is your race different from your ethnicity? Please explain.
    3. Thinking about the twins discussed in this lesson, how would you describe their race and ethnicity?
    4. Complete the Sorting People activity then answer the follow question:
    5. Why is it impossible to use biological characteristics to sort people into consistent races?
    6. Is this type of human categorization helpful or harmful? Explain why and provide support for your answer.

     

    Perception discussion Part IIII.

    1. What’s a common example of group think? What types of cognitive and perceptual errors occur in this example?
    2. In your opinion, why is it that group think can be so powerful?
    3. What are some tactics you can use to avoid group think?

    Remember to support your claims with examples, logic, and if possible, research. Also, when analyzing group thinks, ask yourself whether a group can also be beneficial in arriving at a legitimate conclusion.
