For this assignment, you will be writing as if you are doing a presentation for juvenile justice professionals (police, prosecutors, PO’s, defense attorneys, judges, youth development workers, etc.) at a national conference on the underlying causes of disproportionate minority youth contact (DMC) with the juvenile justice system in the United States.
The focus of this presentation is NOT on youth behavior per se. BASED ON YOUR READINGS the focus of your workshop is on factors outside of the control of individual youth that impact DMC. This includes larger societal/community issues as well as juvenile justice policies/systemic problems that contribute to or cause DMC.
The first part of the presentation should be outlining and giving an overview of the factors in society and the juvenile justice system contributing to DMC with explanation that non-BCJ student professionals would understand. The second part should be on the kinds of things that would need to change in the country as a whole and in the juvenile justice system to reduce DMC in the United States.
The presentation documentation that you turn in can be either in PowerPoint format or in narrative in a regular Word document. If you use PowerPoint, include detailed notes demonstrating that you understand the material in detail.
It should take the equivalent of information on 5-7 double-spaced pages to complete this assignment.
