Discussion Question

Protection for workers has been an important issue in labor-management relations for much of the last 100 years in this country. In a high-risk profession such as law enforcement, where injuries and disability are a daily risk of the job, the laws protecting workers from unfair treatment are particularly important. On the other hand, there are certain requirements in law enforcement that differ from the civilian work force (a police officer must be able to see, hear, drive, etc.).

Discuss the respective interests in having police officers with the physical ability to perform the job, contrasted with a disabled worker who deserves to be treated humanely.
