Curriculum Analysis Assignment Using Manitoba Curriculum

The scrapbook consists of 5 sections, plus bookend pages (e.g., cover page, table of contents).
Section 1 considers your personal and professional philosophy of mathematics education.
Each of the remaining sections considers a different strand of the MbCF (i.e. Number, Patterns and Relations, Shape and Space, and Statistics and Probability).
Please include the assessment rubric below when submitting the assignment.

    Specific requirements for Section 1

Write a maximum 2-page statement of your personal and professional philosophy of mathematics education, which includes:

commentary on curriculum, instruction and assessment; and
support for your position by referencing personal experience and professional literature (e.g., course readings).

Specific Requirements for Each Curriculum Strand (Sections 2-5)

Each section should be devoted to one strand, and contain the following elements:

Create/find a math problem that meets a grade 2 or 3 outcome from one strand.
List the specific grade 2 or 3 outcome(s) targeted by the math problem. Explain the choice of specific outcome(s) by referring to appropriate achievement indicators.
Describe an adaptation of the math problem for struggling students, which inclusively fits the original problem and is justified by referring to a specific outcome one grade below the target outcome. Explain the choice of specific outcome(s) by referring to appropriate achievement indicators.
Describe an adaptation of the math problem for gifted students, which inclusively fits the original problem and is justified by referring to a specific outcome one grade above the target outcome. Explain the choice of specific outcome(s) by referring to appropriate achievement indicators.
An explanation of how to do the mathematics required in the entire problem (i.e., a complete solution of the target grade problem and both adaptations), which illustrates understanding of outcomes, achievement indicators and expectations of early years learners.
    Notes:

A lesson plan is not expected. The focus is on curricular intent, not classroom implementation issues.
It may happen that there is no appropriate outcome for an adaptation. If this happens, you should indicate as such and justify the adaptation.
