HE BASICS:
•Choose 1 art object (made between~1955 and the present)
and provide a close formal analysis of the work.

Critically analyze 2 different art-historical arguments about this or a
related object (by the same artist or from the same movement).
•
Through synthesis of the above elements, present a clear, original
THESIS regarding the artwork and texts. (Don’t simply repeat the
argument of cited sources.)
•
The final
paper should be about 2,500 words, or 9
-10 double-
spaced, typed pages, in Times New Roman,12
-point font.
•
The
bibliography should have at least 5 sources (books and articles).
•
The course textbook does not count as a source!
•
No web sources
—i.e., museum websites or blogs—are permitted.
(Note: library databases
for peer
–
reviewed articles , like JSTOR or Art Full Text, are not considered web sources.)
•
The citation

TIPS:
•
On quoting sources: When you cite an author, be sure to analyze the quote carefully,clarifying how and why it fits into your argument. (Papers littered with quotes and no analysis or synthesis will receive lower grades.)

Be sure to edit. Points will be deducted for poor grammar and
awkward writing
