Instructions: Using your knowledge of criminology, write a critical analysis in response to one
of the following documentaries: Superheroes directed by Mike Barnett.
You should consider the following issues when writing your response:
• Think critically; use your sociological imagination in analyzing the film.
• What is the thesis being presented in the film? Was it persuasive? Why or why not?
• What theories, if any, were applied in the film?
• Draw upon concepts discussed in class and in the readings when formulating your
response. Concepts may include, but are not limited to: Community, Crime in the
Media, Criminological Theories, Globalization and Crime, Organized Crime, Policing,
Social Constructionism, Stigmatization, White Collar Crime, and Victimization.
Please Note: Do NOT present a film critique or provide a plot synopsis as if you were
a film reviewer. Analyze the film as a criminologist.
