For this assignment you must attend a live classical music performance and write a paper. You must be physically present for the performance.

Your document must be typed in 12-point Times or Times New Roman font, be double-spaced, and have one-inch margins. Check out the Chicago Reader, Red Eye/Metromix, and the Chicago Cultural Center for free (or cheap) performances. Your paper should be completed as follows:

Introduction (1 paragraph)
Identify the type of event: concert, club, etc… and discuss the effect that you felt the environment had on the event. Give names of all performers (if it is a particular group just the groups name is sufficient except in cases of small groups such as the CSO woodwind quartet). Also provide the date, place, and instruments that were played.

Identify the compositions performed and composers if possible. Discuss the overall flow of the program. How did it feel to you as a listener?

Body (3 paragraphs)
Pick 3 elements of music and apply them to this performance. Be sure to provide examples from the performance of the characteristics you feel were used.

Conclusion (1 paragraph)
Discuss the performance itself. How did the artists do? Were they exciting, boring, technically precise or sloppy? Did they have good stage presence? Were you engaged the whole time?
What did you enjoy the most and least and why?
