Compare and Contrast Two Family Therapy Theories
Choose two family systems therapy theories that you are interested in learning more about and applying to the family subsystem you analyzed in the Unit 5 assignment. See what I have chosen below:
Please write about these two models ONLY:
BFT – Behavior Focused Therapy
SFT – Solution Focused Therapy
Write a paper in which you describe the central concepts, goals, and typical interventions of each model, using scholarly sources (journal articles, books, or edited book chapters) to support your writing. Your paper must use a minimum of three scholarly, peer-reviewed sources for EACH model for a total of six altogether for both.
Once you have described the main tenets of both models, compare and contrast the two models’ similarities and differences. Consider such aspects as the role of the therapist, beliefs about problems and change, the types of interventions used, central concerns of each model, and so on.
Evaluate how each model would look when applied to your chosen family subsystem. Consider how each model would describe the family subsystem, and whether its goals and interventions would fit well with the family’s needs. Decide which model you will use for creating a basic treatment plan for the family subsystem in the Unit 10 assignment, and give your rationale for your choice.
PART TWO –
NOW…This is a separate paper which will need separate headings, title and reference pages. Please See below the instructions for this separate paper.
For your course project, you were asked to write a paper examining a family subsystem from the movie Parenthood. This will be a continuation of the paper I have attached. Please see paper I have attached and continue writing paper using the SFT model and the family members I have talked about in the paper. Here are the requirements for this paper:
In your project for this course, you will take a look at a family subsystem within the movie Parenthood. You will provide an assessment of the relationship patterns in the family, consider two family therapy models for use with the family, choose one therapeutic model to guide a brief treatment plan, and reflect on the impact of your own perspective and how it affects your perceptions of and approach to the family. The purpose of the project is to provide an opportunity for you to analyze family issues from a systems perspective, apply an assessment tool, and develop a plan of treatment for a particular family subsystem.
The following pieces should be included in your project:
1.Genogram – A genogram of a family subsystem from the Buckman family in Parenthood . It should include visual depictions of relationships among family members, and identifying information like ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, mental or physical illnesses, addictions, and other relevant information.
2.Analysis of Family Subsystem – A clinical conceptualization of one subsystem contained within the Buckman family (for example, one of the couples or parent(s) and their child(ren)). You will apply family systems concepts from the course, looking at patterns of relationships, themes in the family, and issues with life cycle transitions.
3.Literature Review (PART ONE ABOVE)– You will choose two family systems therapy models in BFT and SFT. Using supporting research, compare and contrast these two systemic therapeutic models and consider how they might be applied to the family subsystem you chose . Discuss the interventions associated with each model, and how each model would affect treatment with this family.
4.Treatment Plan – In u10a1, you will choose one of the two models you researched. You will create a brief plan of treatment for the family subsystem, incorporating short-, medium-, and long-term goals, and selecting model-specific interventions for use at each stage of therapy. Include a diagnosis using the Global Assessment of Relational Functioning (GARF) scale.
5.Reflection – A reflection on the process of developing this conceptualization and treatment plan. What was the effect of your personal experiences, beliefs, and values upon your assessment of this family, and your ideas about how to work with them?
1.Create a genogram of a family subsystem from the Buckman family.
2.Analyze a family subset in relation to the larger family system in terms of intergenerational themes, relationship patterns, and life-cycle transitions.
3.Compare and contrast two systemic therapeutic models.
4.Evaluate how different interventions would affect treatment.
5.Develop a systemically based diagnosis and treatment plan.
6.Reflect on the effect of your personal experiences, beliefs, and values upon a particular situation.
7.Write in a clear and professional manner, and use APA style.
