Compare and Contrast” This is essentially the preliminary work needed to do Essay #3, Comparative Rhetorical Analysis.
Many of the readings we have read this semester have addressed similar themes including work, identity, and other social issues like minimum wage and immigration. Choose one of these themes and discuss how the readings (at least 2) address the theme focusing on the 1) the argument or thesis the author presents, 2) the kinds of evidence or appeals the author uses to discuss/question or attempt to understand and analyze the theme.
First, make an MLA entry for a works cited page of the 2 texts you will be using.
For each, briefly state the author’s question (or main idea) and thesis (what they are arguing).
For each, generate at least 3 examples for how the author uses evidence to argue their thesis. Are they persuading their readers with logical appeals (fact or figures)? Are they using examples from their lives (ethos and/or pathos?) to support their argument?
Finally, develop a well formulated thesis that compares the authors’ rhetorical strategies for making their arguments.
