Communication Channels and Diversity
Diversified Employees and the Future of the Workplace – worth 25 points
SITUATION:
The United States Census Bureau predicts that the next 30 years will see an increase in the
diversity of the United States workforce. This is brought about not only by the retirement of baby
boomers, but also due to the fact that the United States is becoming an aging nation where the
death rate surpasses the overall birthrate, and equally important, there is a consistent increase of
immigrants to this country.
As a result, the opportunities facing minorities are both good and bad. Companies are realizing
they can simply do without filling the roles vacated by retirees, forcing current and new
employees to do more than previously. On the positive side, as people retire, this enables the
multicultural population to play a bigger role in the workforce.
ASSIGNMENT:
Provide two ways – in the form of two paragraphs – how the diversified and
smaller workforce will be able to handle an increasing workload and because of
the international cultural pool, the best ways to effectively communicate with
each other.
Question 4:
Creating a Perfect Pitch
The Art of Persuasion – worth 25 points
Definition: Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively
and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating
information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection,
reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action.
QUESTION:
Given this background, you need to be creative to find a new “sponsor,” “benefactor” or
“supplier” to help the cause you support, Habitat for Humanity. The organization does
wonderful work and you’re proud of it, but it also needs financial assistance to acquire building
supplies. Who or what is a logical choice to contact?
[Note: Habitat for Humanity is “A nonprofit, ecumenical ministry that has helped to build over
500,000 decent, affordable houses and served 2.5 million people worldwide.” Its vision is a
world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller
and his wife, Linda, and through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, the
organization builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses alongside its homeowner partner
families.]
ASSIGNMENT:
Using your persuasive skills, identify an appropriate person or company (the audience) to
consider supporting Habitat for Humanity, and spell out the desired action you wish to achieve.
Using bullet points, explain how you would prepare a proper sales message (remember: gain
attention, create desire, motivate action) as it directly involves the person or company you have
chosen to contact.
