childhood

    childhood
The way we understand or construct childhood has a major impact on the way we intervene within the child protection system to protect children. Discuss.
    1) Social perceptions of the family; nuclear family in particular and how it is gendered, roles of mothers and fathers.Family law, legislation (what caused legislation to change).

    2) Child development stages (physical development), human rights (participation; giving the children a voice)

    3) Social constructivism, the taken for granted knowledge (historical and cultural specific), for example the dominant ideologies of childhood and the critique against essentialism and realism perhaps use some historical examples of intervention such as the stolen generisaton or coercion of women adopting their babies out in the 60’s.

    4) Then perhaps discuss perhaps two different paradigms relating to family and kinship that does not apply to the dominant ideology such as indigenous, or other kinship structures and annalist them accordingly.

    5) Looking at the shift of focus from masculine approaches to child protection (disciplinarian) to a more family focused holistic results driven.
