I was reading awhile back that even if you were to plant corn on the entire surface of the earth, you would still
be unable to meet our current fuel demands. That being said, what’s the point? offsetting fuel vs. keeping people
alive is an obvious choice, instead we need to start looking at more long term renewable resources. Therefore, we
need to first focus on feeding everyone in the world instead of trying to meet energy demands. Further research
should be done, we can’t simply hide the fact that we are not reducing starvation, but actually making it worse.
Personally, I think that we have natural rights – no matter the cost, to feed those who are in need. I like to
compare this to the university and a football program…they say its not “profitable”. But what is profit for a
university? just because the program itself isn’t profitable it doesn’t mean that the school won’t have a better
social scene and community, increased awareness and recruitment, look at Old Dominion University for example. At
some point we have to say to ourselves, the costs doesn’t matter let’s do whats right.
