Globalisation has had a huge impact on the role of a manger and the skills, knowledge and practice of managers. Using examples for the chapter and business environment consider:
1. What are the key processes for defining globalisation?
2. What are the different kinds of global jobs
3. Is it a paradox to say global is always local?
by the way I can give you the summary for this week (chapter)
It deals with that all‐important and contentious issue of globalization. By this point you should now be able to make conceptual linkages between globalisation and many of the topics we have studied. An overarching theme of this unit is an evaluation of the world that today’s managers have to deal with. It is a world of global competition, global supply chains, global markets, global customers, and global employees. It is a world of global flows of finance, knowledge, people, and politics that all have to be managed. Throughout the module we have considered the globalizers, looked at the possibilities of global careers in some of these globalizing agents, and assessed the currency with which global careers are constructed. There is of course resistance to globalisation which we also explore and consider its impact on ‘survival’ in the contemporary business world.
Key topics of study:
The impact of globalization, especially on organizations
Key strategic issues involved in managing in a global economy
Why resistance to globalization occurs
The central role of knowledge workers in the global economy
The positive and negative effects globalisation has on individuals, organizations, societies, and nations
