Annotated Bibliographies and Literature Review:  

Purpose: To develop research methodology and support the information and claims used in the development of the speech presentation. An annotated bibliography is a list of citations of work consulted, such as books, articles, and documents during the research phase. Each citation is followed by a brief (usually about 150 – 200 words) descriptive and evaluative paragraph, the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited. Annotated bibliographies for CMST 101 lists the author, title, publisher, and a summary of the source using the Modern Language Association (MLA) style of citation. After listing the source —  

provide a summary of the source and explain why it is credible and appropriate to support your topic and speech presentation. Include the following information for the annotated bibliography:  

—  (Who) Identify and discuss who wrote it, why is that person (or group) an authority?  

—  (What) Summarize the content of source. Explain how the source you selected supports the speech topic and why it was selected.  

—  (Why) Explain why the source was selected for your particular speech topic and explain why you think it is a good addition to your research.
