    ANALYZING A PRINT ADVERTISEMENT
    USING SOCIAL COGNITIVE THEORY AND FEMINIST THEORIES
    The goal of this individual assignment is for students to apply theories addressed in the course to contemporary media content and to compare and contrast different theoretical perspectives.
    Choose one 2012 print advertisement (not an advertisement discussed in class or the recitation). In an appendix to the paper, attach the print advertisement or a copy of it. The chosen ad will be used as the basis for analysis in this paper. It is recommended to get approval from your teaching assistant for the advertisement of your choice in advance to writing the paper.
    In essay format, provide a brief review of each of the two theoretical perspectives: social cognitive theory and feminist theories.
    Then, analyze the advertisement using each of the two theoretical perspectives. For each perspective, analyze issues of (1) representation and (2) audience/effects.
    In your analysis, make sure to employ central concepts relevant for each theoretical perspective. Define and exemplify each concept clearly.
    Finally, compare and contrast the analysis of the two perspectives – what are the similarities and differences between them in their approach to the advertisement?
    Throughout the paper, apply and define relevant theoretical concepts. Use specific examples from the advertisement to support your argument.
    You are encouraged to use credible, recent, and relevant external sources throughout the paper to support your arguments. Attach a reference list at the end of the paper. Follow the citation guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA) as taught in the Academic Writing Workshop.
    The paper should be written in an essay format and be no longer than 5 pages long (excluding any appendix and reference list), typed using Times New Roman 12 point font, double spaced, with 2 cm margins on all sides. On the first page indicate the course title and the name of your teaching assistant. The paper’s grade will constitute 20% of your final course grade.
