Consider this scenario for this part of the weekly discussion:
As a member of the administration at your hospital, you have been assigned the task of conducting a phone survey of past patients to determine satisfaction with the hospital food service. Explain how you would go about selecting a simple random sample.
note from professor
Noe addressing the discussion topic for this week: Be sure we use the MAT5430 definition of “rancom sample.” For a sample to be random, every data point must be EQUALLY LIKELY to be selected.
So, asking the 14 closest co-workers would not present a randam sample. Convenience samples do not well represent the popuation. When you give us your random sampling, think along the lines of submitting each person’s name in the populationj to be studied into a hat, shaking up the hat well, then drawing a sample. That would ‘guarantee’ EQUALLY LIKELY chances of any data point being selected. Simple Random Sampling: Definition and Examples (questionpro.com)
