Project

Journal articles are the primary method for historians to discuss and debate key issues. In articles, historians present historical research on new facts or material and argue how the new material should be interpreted. Understanding the style and techniques of a historical article can be useful when writing your own papers and thinking about history in a professional manner.

Select one of the two journal articles and write a two-page review (roughly 500 words) that describes the important questions raised by the article, the sources used by the author, the primary argument presented and why the author feels this topic is important.
    Article Options:

    A. Stone, David, “Stalingrad and the Evolution of Soviet Urban Warfare,” Journal of Slavic Military Studies. Apr-Jun 2009, Vol. 22 Issue 2

    B. Leff, Mark, “The Politics of Sacrifice on the American Homefront in WWII,” Journal of American History. Mar 91, Vol. 77 Issue 4

Learning Objective: Understand historical research, writing and argumentation.
