Synthesis and Evaluation

1) Find an example of a design prototype of some kind.

Consider a well documented example outside of class (Legible London is a good example)

2) Include a short description (200 words) with diagrams, images and/or links to supporting materials so that we can get to know the design prototype and can see what existing materials are available

3) Consider who might use/interact with the final design, their needs and characteristics from a human factors perspective and identify what design criteria might be relevant to the evaluation of the design, any specific tasks, scenarios, and personas (you do not have to create a full persona but if it supports the evaluation you may find it useful to provide a very short version – unless your project already has personas developed). Write approx 400 words for this section. Use images/diagrams etc. to support your ideas. If you choose to use an example from class you must identify a criteria and technique that is not described in the article or class materials.

4) Zooming in on 3 design criteria, how would you test the criteria? propose three evaluation techniques, justify your choice, and describe the materials needed (prototype fidelity level), evaluation tools/setting, participants, the type of data that will result (quantitative/qualitative), and what your hoped for outcome might be. If you choose to use an example from class you must identify a criteria and technique that is not described in the article or class materials. (approx 200 words per evaluation technique. )

[For example, if you propose a crowd movement evaluation model for a public transit station prototype you would need to articulate what design criteria you can test with this approach (rush hour movement of X number of people), what fidelity of prototype and evaluation tools (virtual model with MassMotion modeller), and the outcome (quantitative assessment of overcrowding risk). [This is a very brief version]
