The objective of this essay is to develop your understanding of the business model as a concept and how a theoretical understanding of business models can be used to explain the exploitation of innovations by organisations in real-life.

Any innovation can usually be exploited with the help of a number of different business models and it is a challenge for any organisation to choose the most appropriate and effective business model. To successfully complete this part of the assessment, you are required to explore the academic, theoretical literature on business models and write an essay addressing the following;
• Choose a company that has recently (in the last 5 years) brought an innovation to market
• Identify the business model conceptualisation that your chosen company uses to exploit the recent innovation; clearly explain (with references) why this is the BM the company uses
• Identify one alternative business model conceptualisation that your chosen company could have used to exploit the innovation; clearly explain (with references) how this BM could be used by the company
• Critically discuss both conceptualisations with the help of theoretical/academic literature
• Come to a conclusion: which of the 2 conceptualisations is superior for the chosen company? The one they actually use or the alternative one that they could have used?

You should include at least 5 references and no more than 20 references.
