Prepare a 6 paged double-spaced paper, with 1 inch margins on all sides, 12 point font, discussing the following question:

Are all people equal in U.S. society today?

This paper is a test to demonstrate that you have done the readings, so be sure to discuss and analyze what your reading say. The authors of your textbook explain various things and they use the statistics to show that certain groups of citizens are disproportionately worst off, in some ways, than other groups in America. What does this say in terms of equalitarianism in America today? How are stereotypes associated with each group likely to impact their lives in terms of education, employment, where they are likely to live, life span, poverty, incarceration rates, and the various other social indicators which are measured throughout the Aguirre and Turner book?

    I. In your textbook by Aguirre & Turner (2007), the authors set forth various statistics and social indicators regarding income, education, incarceration rates, employment, poverty, life span, health, occupation, unemployment, segregation and stereotypes etc. pertaining to Asian Americans, African Americans, Native Americans, Arab Americans, Hispanic Americans and “White” Americans. Discuss an impressive amount of these statistics. Which groups are showing up with the highest rates of poverty for example? Which group(s) are showing up with the lowest rates of educational attainment? Which groups are showing up with the highest rates of incarceration? (25 points possible)
II. Discuss what these statistics demonstrate. In other words, the authors use the statistics to show that certain groups of citizens are disproportionately worst off than other groups in America. What does this say in terms of equalitarianism in America today? What are the implications for “democracy”? (25 points possible)
III. Explain the stereotypes that Aguirre & Turner set forth for Hispanic Americans, Arab Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans and African Americans, and “White” Americans. How do these stereotypes serve to maintain the statistics discussed in #1 above? (40 points possible)
IV. Include an Introduction and a Conclusion (10 points possible)
