Introduction: When different groups of people emphasize different sets of values, it can be difficult to ever reach a consensus—yet our society has moved forward on controversial issues in the past. Think of the abolition of slavery or of the passage of universal suffrage (extending voter rights to women) in this country: advocates for both sides of these issues held tightly to vastly different values, but eventually one side in each case attained near-universal acceptance. Thankfully not every issue has to contribute to a civil war before it is resolved, and not every conflict worth resolving takes place on a national scale. What almost all conflicts have in common, though, is that they are rarely resolved through inaction: someone has to speak up in order for change to happen. For this assignment, that someone is you.
Overview: Your task is to select a controversial topic and to persuade people to adopt either a specific point of view or a specific solution to your topic. Because every topic is different, you may find that it is more constructive to argue for a compromise or some area of common ground between the various sides of the issue rather than arguing for the complete acceptance of one point of view over the complete rejection of its opposite. Whichever approach you take, remember that your purpose here is not merely to inform: it is to persuade.Click Here To Get More On This Essay!!!
Format: In the upper-left corner, put your name, class number and section, and the assignment name (Persuasive Paper). Give your paper an original title as well (center this title). You do not need an additional title page, but do include page numbers. Please attach the pages with either a staple or a paper clip.
The persuasive paper should be between 7 and 9 pages, double-spaced, in Times New Roman 12-point font. You must use information from at least five outside sources in your argument, though you are welcome to use more than five sources. A works cited page is required, but will not be used to determine the final page length. For this paper, you will sit down with the instructor to discuss your draft before turning in the final paper.
