Persuasive Writing for Advertising

    Persuasive Writing for Advertising
During Week 4, you each came up with some interesting, engaging tweets for students interested in attending Temple University. Some of the best tweets included a call for action, prompting conversation, photo sharing and other forms of interaction. Here are a few examples:

Temple University’s study abroad program offers opportunities to see the world with campuses in Tokyo, Japan and Rome. Share your travel adventures! #TU #studyabroad #seetheworld

Have you heard about Temple’s “Fly in 4”? Click here to find out more about our plan to help you graduate on time, or it’s on us! ((link)) #TU #Flyin4 #Savecash #Tuition

Meet Owl-ivia, today’s featured undergrad student (link). Can you beat her #CherryAndWhite charm? Send us your pics #CherryOn! #TU

    #HallandOats : just one of many Temple success stories. #Makeyourdreamscometrue #Owlpride #templemade

For Week 5, we want to use the same methods of persuasion in our tweets and apply that to a full-on ad campaign for Temple University. You’ve tweeted about what you feel are the main draws to Temple University, now it’s time to expand from an online platform to some of the other advertising platforms we’ve recognized throughout this short course. This final project will help bring what we discovered in Weeks 1 through 4 together.

    Week 5 Assignment:

I’ll provide the platforms and the target audiences – you provide the persuasive writing to reach these audiences. Keep in mind, your target audience will be slightly different, depending on the platform I assign. Make sure your topics and writing are compelling to each particular audience. Remember to give real facts in your writing – don’t make up fake stuff about Temple that’s not really available. We want to keep this advertising project as real to life as possible.

Platform 1: Social Media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)
Audience – Males and females age 16 to 25 (Potential new students, transfers and masters candidates)

Write persuasive content for all three platforms above

    1) Rework and improve your 5 tweets from Week4 ( NOTICE: THE TWEETS ARE ATTACHED IN THE WORD DOCUMENT FILE ATTACHED TO THE ORDER)- each must call for interaction

    2) Create 5 Facebook posts

Each FB post must include a photo or video (describe the photo or video you’d produce for each post)

Provide the persuasive copy to accompany each video or photo

    3) Create 5 Instagram posts

Each Instragram post must include a photo (describe the photo you’d produce for each post)

Provide the persuasive copy to accompany each video or photo

Platform: 2: Traditional Media (Television, Radio, Magazine)

Audience – Males and Females age 40 – 60 (Parents of incoming students)

Write persuasive content for all three platforms above

Create one :30 second television commercial

Describe the video sequence / story you’ll be telling in your commercial
Write persuasive copy for a :30 commercial – use power words and be sure to hit your target audience of parents

Make sure you time yourself reading your copy aloud to ensure it is no more than thirty seconds long

Create one :15 second radio commercial
Write persuasive copy for a :15 commercial – use power words and be sure to hit your target audience of parents. Remember, this is radio, so your words are all you have to engage your audience.

Create one half page ad for a newspaper or magazine geared toward 40-60 year olds
Describe the photo / graphics you’ll be using in your print ad

Write persuasive copy for the ad, again being sure you’re hitting your target audience. Look at other magazine and newspaper ads – less text is better. Hashtags and QR codes may not be the best idea for the majority of your readers.
