Wk 3 Dis Compare and Contrast

Compare and contrast your research relating to sports and non-sports related injuries to the shoulder to the research and findings of your peers.  Share two preventive measures or exercises with your peers which help prevent potential injuries to the shoulder (you may select exercises featured in the video or share ideas of your own). Ensure each peer response contains a minimum of 100 words and include scholar source.if used

Discuss the structure and function of the shoulder girdle and shoulder joint and how the selected activity impacts the function. The main purpose of the shoulder and the upper extremities which allows the hand to move in different positions. The shoulder or the glenohumeral joint is the most moveable joint in the body which is capable of many movements (Lippert,2011). The shoulder complex is composed of the scapula, clavicle, sternum, humerus, and the rib cage which helps with the motion of the shoulder. The shoulder girdle which is composed of the scapula and the clavicle and sometimes the sternum. The shoulder girdle movements such as up and down movements, elevation and depression, protection and retraction involves the sternoclavicular jointand the acrominclavicular joint (Lippert, 2011). The activity I choose is bowling. Bowling can cause injuries to the wrist, elbow, and shoulder joints by putting repetitive stress on them. When doing the same activity over and over again can cause wear and tear on the structures of the body. Bowling can cause biceps tendinitis of the rotator cuff. The tendinitis of the shoulder is common due to how the shoulder works, and the amount of activity and stress is put on the joint (Twinboro,2017).Tendinitis at the shoulder mostly occurs in the subacromial space. This is space that is in an area located at the top of the shoulder, which is formed by the arch that is created by the acromio-clavicular joint. The primary tendons of the shoulder which includes the rotator cuff tendons and the long head of the biceps tendon pass under the arch. Any activities that causes space that is placed on the tendons can cause friction, nubbing, and irritation which can cause tendinitis (Twinboro,2017).Explain how the trunk is relevant in the movement of the shoulder in general and specific to the activity. The trunk plays an important part in the activity of bowling because the trunk helps in movement and support. The vertebral column establishes and maintains the longitudinal axis of the body (Lippert, 2011). The motions that the column makes is due to the motions of the vertebrae. The spinal column provides a pivot point for movement and support the head at the cervical region. The weight of the head, shoulder girdle, the upper extremities, and the trunk are transmitted through the vertebral column (Lippert, 2011). The vertebral column protects the spinal cord. The multijointed rod not only provides movement, but it also provides effective shock absorption and transmission (Lippert, 2011).References:Lippert, L. (2011).
