Breast cancer, the odds of contracting, and methods to minimize risk have gained recent attention in the media as a result of Actress Angelina Jolie’s announcement that she underwent a preventive double mastectomy after learning that she carries a mutation of the gene which sharply increases her risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer. She wrote in a New York Times op-edPreview the documentView in a new window piece, “My doctors estimated that I had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer, although the risk is different in the case of each woman.” However, this controversy is one that has been around for quite some time. After watching the video and reading Jolie’s op-ed about her decision, read the two much older articles that are linked below.

Once you have watched the video and read the articles, prepare an essay:

1) Summarizing the arguments put forth by each person making a claim (including Jolie).

3) Which of the three women has the best argument and why?

4) Are the two articles and the video really talking about the same issue?
