Lab 13B: Evaluating Body Composition: Ht/Wt and Circumferences
This lab will provide you with an opportunity to practice evaluating and/or interpreting body composition assessments from Ht/Wt and circumferences.
    Procedure:
    1. Evaluate anthropometric assessments of body composition (BMI, WHR) according to the procedures in the Lab Resource Materials.
    2. Describe any discrepancies in the measurements and discuss the implications of the assessments for their health and well-being.

    Comments / Suggestions:
    1. The assessments in this lab can be conducted in group or individual settings. Because the equipment required (scale and tape measure) is available to most people, a “home-lab” format could be used.
    2. Note the problems of using height and weight as the primary indicators of body composition (skinfold measures account for fatness where height-weight measures do not).

    Conclusion and Implications
Discuss your results for the height, weight and circumstance procedures. Note any discrepancies in the measurements. Indicate the strenghts and weakness of the various methods. Which of the measures do you think provided you with the mose useful information? If you also did the skinfold meausres (Lab 13A), discuss your body composition based on all the information you have (skinfolds and height, weight, and circmstance measures).

Lab 15A: Selecting Strategies for Managing Eating
This lab will provides you with an opportunity to select and monitor the effectiveness of strategies designed to help you manage eating behaviors.

    1. Use the chart in the lab to document strategies you might use to manage eating behaviors.
Describe your need for using some of these strategies and evaluate whether you think they would be effective.
    Comments / Suggestions:
    1. Some students may have no problems with fat control and may not have to apply any of these strategies. It is still important for these students to understand these principles since many factors associated with weight control can change dramatically with age and activity level.

    Conclusions and Implications
    1. In several sentences, discuss your need to use strategies for effective eating. Do you need to use them? Why or why not?
    2. In several sentences, discuss the effectiveness of the strategies contained in Chart 1. Do you think they can be effective for people who have a problem controlling their body fatness?
