Partner Violence

A) Utilizing indicators, cycle of abuse and risk assessment and safety planning tools. Describe a case plan for Beth and the children from the movie ‘Once We Were Warriors’. (You may choose to use a case from you placement instead).

Physical Abuse of Children

A) Identify the critical aspects to be watchful for as a social worker in naming child physical abuse. (it would include both child victims and adults who abuse)

B) How might you help a parent who uses corporal punishment understand the impact on a child?

Emotional Abuse of Children

A) Define emotional abuse as it relates to children. Give examples from placement or movies of the types of emotional trauma.

B) As the first person responding to the abuse, how would you help the child? What needs to be addressed?

Sexual Abuse of Children

A) In your role as social worker you may be asked to answer “How could anyone sexually abuse a child?” With evidence from the readings provide an answer which demonstrates your understanding of this form of abuse.

B) Please identify any new learning that has helped you to become more knowledgeable and perhaps less reactive.

Reflection

Please identify the areas that you feel comfortable dealing with in practice and those you are less comfortable undertaking as a professional social worker? Please identify strategies that you might utilize to ensure best practice is in place.
